Possible Effects- Andy

While walking through our location while doing the lighting test I decided to film a bit of footage as it looked slightly like what we wanted the film to be like. With this footage I tested out some possible effects to see what looked good so that we had an idea in mind when filming the actual footage.

With these effects I originally tested out the film in black and white however we quickly decided that this didn't fit our type of film. So then I tried lowering the saturation and we really liked how that looked so we decided that we will probably end up using this effect in the final film.
The other effect that I tried using was soft focus to try to give it a surreal and mysterious feel to the footage. However this didn't work very well as the footage just looked out of focus and low quality.

Practise shots - Nick

This weekend we plan on going out to our locations and taking some practise shots to see how they look. We plan on testing out all of the equiptment and some potential shots. In addition to what we planned we have also decided to use a very big torch as we believe this will give us a better look as it will turn up more clearly on the camera.

We will then post the results of this test on Wednesday.

Important Decisions- Amy and Nick

  • Three People- One Female Two Males
  • Set in The Forrest
  • Trying to prove that Slenderman is not real
  • Opening simular to the Slender game opening
  • Set up hidden cameras in the surrounding area off their camp
  • Open ending?

Location Decisions- Amy and Nick

We have decided to set our short film in the Forrests we have chosen this because it is the stereotypical place for someone to run into slenderman.
We have selected two different woods; the Ashenground woods in Haywards Heath and another smaller forrest that is also in Haywards Heath,
We will start filming in the late afternoon and going into the evening so it will get quite dark, so we will involve nightvision cameras in this.

Why Slenderman?- Amy

The idea for our short film literally came to us as we left our lesson one day, out of nowhere we decided that 'Slender' was a brilliant idea to be made into a short film, The computer downloaded game has become a sensation with a lot of people, mainly teenagers. So we know that it is a popular idea,

Obviously we couldn’t just copy the game so we have designed our short film to have its own view on the whole idea that landed us with the idea that the characters in our film will be going into the woods to show that Slenderman is not real, rather than going there to collect notes.

We have done a lot off research on the origin off slenderman and the 'symptoms' that he is coming for you,

This is the site that we started on:

http://www.mythicalcreaturesguide.com/page/Slender+Man

We decided to keep the setting off the original slenderman game that is set in the woods, this makes the people feel alone and isolated creating a feeling off vulnerability.

We will keep you up to date with our progress as we create this short film.

Feel free to follow our blog and comment with your thoughts on our short film so far.

Profile Picture

So we found it hard trying to decide on a profile picture, so in the end we decided to put all of the failed attempts into one picture and use that... introducing Nick, Amy and Andy.

Slender

Short Film Basic Idea

·         Our short film will be based on the internet game sensation ‘Slenderman’

·         We will base it in a forest

·         It  Will involve three characters going in search for Slenderman to prove that he is not real

·         They soon discover that he is...

·         Then figure out that they are trapped in the forest with what seems like no escape.

Representation In short films- Amy

 Do Your Part

Masculinity:
  • Man offering the woman a drink (steriotyipicly the way it goes when on a date)
  • All of the men at the bar including male barman shows that pub bars are seen to be more for men
  • He orders beer (steriotyipicly a man’s drink)
In this shot the man is offerening the woman a drink, this is the stereotypical thing that happens when you meet someone in an alcoholic drinking enviroment, as the angle is quite lot it is showing that the man is more powerful and he is the more dominant character, and he is taking control, the dialouge in this shot also shows this as he is offering her the drink and not the other way round, this also connects to the idea that she is a woman and needs people to do things for her as antifeminists may suggest that women should not be ordering alcoholic beverages for themselves as it is not seem very ladylike and it doesnt look as nice as a woman having a calm coffie. The shot is from his side so maybe suggesting thaat this is only one side off his personallity. There is very bright colours with a big amount of contrast in this shot, this could be to show the calm and happy enviroment but it may also show how he is feeling as he is pleased even exstatic that he has got this woman to agree to having a drink with him.

In this shot the man is looking over his sholder at the woman to smiling and showing that he is buying her drink I think that he's doing this to impress her. He is laughing, this also shows that he is very happy, it may show immaturety though and therefore is charactor development as we are finding out about his personallity. he isn't giving the barman much attention and he is pretty much entirely focused on the woman. This shows that he is showing off, it also shows some of his character because he is acting over the top and trying to seem like a good laugh to the woman, I know this because he is laughing. The shot is a eyeline shot from the woman so you are seeing what she does and you may feel as she does about the mans charactor. The man is wearing all black so this may suggest that he is trying to look smart for the woman and trying to make himself seem more mature.
Age:

  • You know that the man is old enough to buy a drink as the barman doesn’t even question him or ask for I.D. As the shot is a Mid close up it shows that he is alright with the barman and is on the same level in maturety, I know this because it shows that the man may be standing quite close to the barman so is not afraid to challenge him, the angle of the shot is at eyelevel this also shows that the men are on the same level off respect as they are looking at eachother equally. This may just be the mans own opinion and as the barman 's facial expression is looking uninpressed and a little fed up, this may because he knows that the man is showing off and he is embarrised for him.

  • The fact that he takes a shot instead of giving money to charity could show that he is quite immature because he needs a drink to talk to the woman, the low angle shot shows that he feels in control and makes him look powerful he may be feeling brave. The light coming from behind him shows that he could be feeling the drink hit him as his sight is slightly disorentated. The Deapth off field in this shot is very shallow, this shows that the man is very much the focus off the shot, this could be because he feels like the world revolves around him and he therefore feels very powerful and full off himself.
